You might have heard that earwigs will crawl into people’s ears while they sleep. Fortunately, this is just a myth with no scientific backing. While earwigs may not be dangerous, they still aren’t fun to have around.
Many different species of earwig live in Southern California. Most earwig species generally live in damp and wet places. They eat decaying plants and vegetation, as well as live sprouts. If earwigs get into your home, they usually snack on oily foods, greasy foods, sweet foods, and even old spills left behind on your kitchen counter.
Earwigs often look intimidating because of the forceps, or pincers, protruding from the back of their abdomen. They use these pincers to spar with other earwigs and for self-defense, but a pinch from these pincers is not venomous and often does not even break the skin.
Earwigs enter into homes and commercial buildings through small, unsealed cracks. crevices and open doors. They usually enter homes in search of food or to escape from unfavorable weather conditions. Once inside, earwigs prefer to settle in rooms of the house with water sources, such as the bathroom, the laundry room, and the kitchen.
Earwigs are also attracted to light, which is why you may find earwigs on your porch or patio during the evening while your porch light is on.
If earwigs are inconveniencing your home life or commercial residence, then Harper Pest Control has a solution for you! Once inside your home, earwigs like to hide away in dark places, but we know where they hide! Our CleanGreen crack and crevice treatments will flush them out of harborage areas inside and we will create a barrier around the outside of your property, keeping the earwigs out of your house and off of your porch.
Cockroaches can measure anywhere from .5 inches in length to 2 inches in length, depending on the species of cockroach. They have flat oval-shaped bodies, with six long legs that help them to scurry quickly across floors, walls, ceilings, and any other flat surface. Cockroaches also have long antennae and some species even have wings.
Because cockroaches are nocturnal, they tend to stay hidden in dark, hard-to-find places during the day and come out to eat during the night. Cockroaches will eat anything, from all types of human food and pet food to other household items like soap, glue, and even trash.
Though cockroaches don’t bite or sting, they do carry infectious diseases that can be harmful to humans and pets. Cockroaches can carry salmonella, dysentery, gastroenteritis, poliomyelitis, cholera, leprosy, giardia, listeriosis, E.coli, etc. These diseases can be transferred to the food that they have access to in your pantry. Cockroach sheddings can also trigger allergies and asthma.
Because cockroaches are nocturnal and are very good at staying hidden, you may not spot an actual cockroach in your home or commercial building, but other signs signal the presence of a cockroach infestation. Female cockroaches can lay hundreds of eggs in capsule-shaped shells in their lifetimes. They tend to lay their eggs in dark places in your home, such as drawers, trash cans, underneath furniture, corners, and other dark cracks. If you see these eggs around your home or building, you likely have an infestation and require cockroach removal.
Cockroaches also leave trails of poop around their stomping grounds at night when they are hunting for food and water. If you see cockroach droppings, which resemble coffee grounds or pepper, then you likely have an infestation and require cockroach control.
Because infestations can grow out of control very quickly, you must contact us as soon you notice these signs.
Cockroaches get into homes and buildings through small entry points like windows, cracks, crevices, and many other small, unnoticeable entrances. You may have even unknowingly carried them in on boxes or in bags. Like most pests, cockroaches break into your home looking for food and water. All these roaches need to survive are food, water, and shelter, which is why infestations usually occur in dirty homes, but can also occur in clean homes. Without proper treatment, no home in Southern California is immune!
Unfortunately, cockroach infestations don’t just leave on their own. Do-it-yourself cockroach treatments are ineffective and will not rid your home of these nasty buggers. Harper Pest Control will take care of your unwanted roach house guests efficiently with our CleanGreen method.
Despite the name “black” widow, these spiders vary in color. While a majority of black widows are black, with red hourglass-shaped markings on the underside of their belly, some black widows are brown with orange markings on their bellies.
Black widow spiders are venomous. When provoked, female black widows will bite, secreting a venom with neurotoxins that attack the nervous system. The black widow spider is considered to have the most toxic spider bite in the United States.
Black widows usually build webs in protected, sheltered, and secluded areas, whether inside or outside. If the widow is outside, its web may be found in protected places such as the underside of outdoor furniture and piles of wood. Inside a home, a black widow will build its web in dark, cluttered corners, usually on the ground level, like in a closet or garage.
Like most pests, black widows enter homes and commercial buildings through cracks, crevices, open doors, and windows in search of food, water, and shelter. They seek clutter and unused corners of the house to set up camp and catch prey. If you see black widow spiders in your house, you need spider control.
Due to the toxic nature of the black widow spider bite, attempting black widow spider removal yourself can be difficult. Harper Pest Control will take care of your unwanted black widow home intruders efficiently with our CleanGreen method.
Spiders are arachnids, not insects. Their biology has built-in sophisticated defense mechanisms that protect them from residual pest control products. Spiders are solitary, not communal creatures like most insects, so there is no domino effect when treating spiders. They have to be killed individually. At Harper Pest Control, we have developed a residual method for spider control that works very well. We treat and kill as many spiders as we see and disrupt their webs but strategically leave active webs untouched. If we can’t find the spider host, we spray the web leaving it a deadly trap when the spider returns. Our treatments help eliminate the widows in your house and create a barrier around your property to defend your home from more widow intruders.
